Neighbors,
There were several
reports of at least one group of juveniles stealing candy and
throwing things at our trick or treaters last evening. In fact my
oldest was one of the children affected. A group of juveniles
approached him from behind and took his candy bag. After a short
chase by my wife she located two groups of juveniles and spoke to
both of them. Of course they denied it all. Fortunately we did
recover his empty Halloween bag which helped the situation, plus
several other kids in the neighborhood offered to split their candy
with him.
I know this was not an
isolated incident and that I was not the only one to contact the
police. If you were out last night, officers were in the
neighborhood looking for the responsible parties.
Information I have been
able to put together is that there were two groups. One appeared to
be in the
9 to 10 age range and
the other in the 14 to 16 age range. Some of them may have been
getting in and out of a white 4-door sedan vehicle similar to a
Chevrolet Lumina. All the youth involved are black according to the
people I spoke to. They were throwing things, stealing bags from
kids and stealing full candy bowls from front steps and porches.
There were two bowls stolen within my cul-de-sac prior to the
incident with my child. Unfortunately I was inside the house when
all of this took place. When I finally heard about it from a
neighbor, I spent the rest of the evening outside watching the
activity.
It is apparent that we
have some undesirable individuals accessing our neighborhood. As a
community we must be diligent and observant of everything happening
around us. If you see unfamiliar vehicles write down the license
plate number and gather descriptions of suspicious individuals. We
must remain pro-active with our eyes and ears open to what is
happening in our community.
Take care.
