  • Mail Theft in Southbridge (September 25, 2006):

This past weekend there was another incident where mail was taken and opened from at least six mailboxes in our neighborhood.  According to the police, this has been happening frequently in the neighborhood.  The police recommend that we do not mail personal checks or send outgoing mail with personal information on it from our personal mailboxes.  Also, remember to take in your mail every day, and consider pulling a credit report to make sure there has been no recent activity on your accounts. Keep an eye on suspicious vehicles in the neighborhood and don’t hesitate to get a license plate # and call the police if you are at all concerned about any unusual activity.

Last year the Hamlet Board of Directors looked into getting locked mailboxes in our neighborhood.  We ultimately decided it was too costly of a venture, as it would involve raising our annual dues to cover the cost.  We will, however, look into the issue again.  We welcome your input and ideas on how we might be able to help curtail this type of activity in our neighborhood.  You can contact the board at board@hamlet-southbridge.com.
